Craniosacral Therapy

It is a gentle yet extremely powerful form of hands-on healing work focused on the 22 bones that make up the human head, the vertebra, sacrum, brain, central nervous system, cerebrospinal fluid (“the sap in the tree”), and the system of membranes inside the cranium and spinal column. With very gentle and light touch, as I hold your head or other parts of your body, I focus upon optimizing the position of the bones, supporting the fluid movement (wave) and energy of the cranio-sacral system, and bringing that system back to balance in the midline of the body. Listening through my hands to your body’s subtle rhythms and any patterns of inertia or congestion, I facilitate the expression of the “Breath of Life” to enhance your body’s own self-healing capabilities.
As we have a rhythm to our breath and heartbeat, there is an even more subtle rhythmic flow in our body: the cranio-sacral wave. The two main components of this system are the brain and the spinal cord. Think of your brain as a computer and the spinal cord as the cable. The spinal cord links the computer’s input and output to rest of your body and your entire bodily functions, as your whole body expands and contracts with the rhythm of the pumping fluids. Cranio-sacral therapy is not only relief from physical pain, but also restoration of clarity, emotional wholeness, and balance within the body. Once the body is in a relaxed state, cranio-sacral therapy has the ability to teach on a cellular level. The body knows this; every cell in the body remembers the connection with the forces of healing. The more the body remembers this natural state, the more it can allow itself to heal
Cranio-sacral therapy is a healing modality developed by Dr. John Upledger in the 1970s. It is based on the approach popularized by the “grandfather spirit” of cranio-sacral work, Dr. William Sutherland, an Osteopath who practiced in the early 1900s.
